Frequently asked questions

Short answers on filing, credits, Government Gateway and what this software covers.

How long does it take your team to review a tax submission if I buy the "ASSISTED" package?+

Typically our support team assesses and responds within 24 to 48 hours.

Why do I need to give my HMRC login details?+

To submit your tax return you must use your Government Gateway credentials. We are HMRC-recognised software. You can find QuickTaxFiler Limited on the GOV.UK list of Self Assessment commercial software suppliers. VAT returns are filed through HMRC Making Tax Digital. Self Assessment filing uses your Gateway login; HMRC does not offer a public SA100 REST submit API.

I am a foreign landlord. Can I use this system?+

Yes. Use the UK property pages (SA105) and, if you are non-resident, the residence pages (SA109).

Is the software linked directly to HMRC so the submission goes instantly?+

On the live product, yes. This recreation simulates the same confirmation flow without calling HMRC.

I have registered. What should I do next?+

Enter your data for your circumstances, review it, then click Submit to HMRC. You will receive a confirmation (from HMRC on the live product). Assisted customers can request an expert review first.

What is the difference between Standard and Assisted?+

Assisted includes a review by a certified accountant, validation support and chat. Standard is self-serve. Either way you submit the return to HMRC from this site.

How does assistance work?+

Use live chat or email. For a tax expert review, grant authorisation so we can access your return.

Can I switch from Standard to Assisted?+

Yes. Upgrade a credit from your account page.

Why am I receiving 'Authentication Failure'?+

The Government Gateway user ID or password is wrong, or a trailing space was pasted. Type the details you use on GOV.UK rather than copying them.

What is HMRC username and password?+

The same user ID and password you use for your Government Gateway account. If you sign in with GOV.UK One Login you still need a unique user ID and password to submit via commercial software.

I don't have a National Insurance number. Can I still file?+

Yes, but you must have a Government Gateway login. UTR is still required.

Can I use the same login to submit my partner's tax return?+

No. Your partner needs their own QuickTaxFiler account, and you need a Government Gateway ID for each individual.

Can I submit multiple SA100s for different people?+

Yes, if you have a Government Gateway ID for every individual. Each person should have their own account.

Do I make annual payments after registering?+

No. There is no annual contract. Complete your return on this site and submit it to HMRC.

I am domiciled outside the UK. How do I report this?+

Complete the domicile questions on the Residence Status (SA109) pages, including the date you came to live in the UK if you were born abroad.

What does "Open" mean in the status section?+

Open means you have started preparing the return but have not submitted it to HMRC yet.

Is the software web based?+

Yes. Nothing to install — register, enter your data and submit.

I already submitted elsewhere but made a mistake. Can I amend here?+

Yes. Start a return and choose Amended. You can amend even if the original was filed on another platform.

How do I file?+

Complete your return on this site and submit it to HMRC with your Government Gateway user ID and password.

Does this software pay my tax to HMRC?+

No. This software submits your return. Any tax due is paid to HMRC separately.
