Terms and conditions

The agreement between you and QuickTaxFiler Limited for use of the Self Assessment software and website.

Last updated: 2 September 2026

1. Acceptance of these terms

These terms form a contract between you and QuickTaxFiler Limited (“QuickTaxFiler”, “we”, “us”), a company registered in England and Wales, company number 11471794, registered office 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX. By creating an account or using the service you agree to be bound by them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

This environment is a local demonstration of QuickTaxFiler product features. It does not submit returns to HMRC and no live payment is taken. The terms below describe the agreement that applies to the live service, so this page can be reviewed as it will appear in production, including for HMRC application review.

2. About the service

QuickTaxFiler is Self Assessment software that helps you prepare a UK tax return: entering figures, calculating tax due, and submitting your return to HMRC using your own Government Gateway credentials. We are a software provider, not an accountancy firm or a firm of tax advisers, except where you separately engage our Assisted review service described below.

3. Eligibility and your account

  • You must be at least 18 and legally able to enter into this contract.
  • Information you give us when registering must be accurate and kept up to date.
  • You are responsible for keeping your login details and Government Gateway credentials confidential and for all activity carried out under your account.
  • Tell us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

4. Fees and filing credits

  • Preparing a return and viewing the tax calculation is free.
  • Online submission uses a pay-as-you-go filing credit: Standard, or Assisted, at the prices shown on our pricing page at the time of purchase.
  • Credits are billed per return and are non-refundable once a return has been submitted to HMRC.
  • We may change our prices at any time; the price shown when you buy a credit is the price you pay for that credit.

5. Your responsibilities

  • You are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the figures you enter, and for reviewing the calculation before you submit.
  • You are responsible for filing on time and for paying any tax due directly to HMRC — QuickTaxFiler does not collect or hold tax payments on your behalf.
  • You must not use the service for any unlawful purpose, to submit information you know to be false, or to attempt to interfere with the security or operation of the service.
  • You must not share your account or Government Gateway credentials with anyone other than a tax adviser you have expressly authorised.

6. HMRC submission and Government Gateway

When you choose to submit, we send your return to HMRC over HMRC’s official Making Tax Digital API, authenticated using the Government Gateway user ID and password you provide at that moment. Submission depends on HMRC’s systems being available and your credentials being valid; we are not responsible for delay or failure caused by HMRC’s systems, your Government Gateway account, or incorrect credentials. A successful submission returns a correlation ID as your receipt — keep a copy for your records.

7. No tax, financial or legal advice

Tax rates, guidance notes and calculators provided within the service are general information based on our understanding of current HMRC rules and are not personalised tax, financial or legal advice. You should seek professional advice for your specific circumstances if you are unsure. Except where you have purchased the Assisted review described below, no QuickTaxFiler employee reviews the content of your return before submission.

8. Assisted review service

If you purchase an Assisted package, you authorise a qualified tax adviser engaged by QuickTaxFiler to review the return data you provide, typically within 24–48 hours, and to raise queries before submission. This review is based solely on the information you supply; it does not extend to matters or income you do not disclose, and does not replace bespoke tax advice covering your wider affairs.

9. Intellectual property

The QuickTaxFiler software, website, calculators and content are owned by or licensed to QuickTaxFiler Limited and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may use the service for your own personal tax filing; you may not copy, reverse engineer, resell or create derivative works from it without our written permission.

10. Limitation of liability

Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded.

Subject to that, our total liability to you arising out of or in connection with the service is limited to the fees you paid for filing credits in the twelve months before the event giving rise to the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including penalties, interest or surcharges charged by HMRC as a result of information you provided being inaccurate, incomplete, or filed late.

11. Suspension and termination

You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, is used fraudulently, or where we reasonably believe continuing to provide the service would put us or others at risk. Closing your account does not remove our obligation to retain records HMRC or other law requires us to keep.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the law or in the service. We will give notice of material changes in-app or by email before they take effect. Continued use of the service after that point means you accept the updated terms.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them, except where you live elsewhere in the UK and mandatory local consumer protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.

14. Contact us

Questions about these terms can be sent to admin@quicktaxfiler.co.uk or support@quicktaxfiler.co.uk, or by post to QuickTaxFiler Limited, 124 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX.
